6th Grade Teams
Though breaking slightly from tradition, to accommodate scheduling needs this year the 6th grade will be split into two teams as follows:
Mrs. Cornish (ELA & social studies)
Mrs. McNair (math & science)
Mrs. Kohlbrenner (math & social studies)
Mrs. Mauro (ELA & science)
The 6th grade teachers will be working closely together and you can expect consistency across teams in regards to curriculum, homework, and general expectations.

Talk to me about homework.
In general, students can expect to receive no more than 1 hour of homework per night following the guideline that students will receive 10 minutes of homework per grade (6th grade = 6 x 10 minutes = 60 minutes). The purpose of homework will vary from day to day and assignment to assignment, but may provide an opportunity for students to independently practice what was taught in class. Homework may also provide a pre-teaching opportunity for students to begin to investigate new material before it is presented in class.
Students are encouraged to read and review math facts on a daily basis as well.
Establishing good homework habits at the end of elementary school will serve students well as they transition to Perry Junior High School next year. Suggestions as to how to assist your child in completing homework are below:
-
Provide a place to work that is away from distractions
-
Develop a routine for recording & monitoring assignments by using the provided agenda planner
-
Help your child develop a system for organization of papers
-
Assist your child in estimating how long assignments will take
-
Break larger assignments into smaller pieces; take a break when needed
-
Parents are encouraged to assist with homework when necessary
-

Absences
While it is expected that children attend school, absences are a normal part of the school year. Please follow school procedures for reporting an absence.

With a very fast-paced curriculum, we will need to work together to be certain thatupon returning to school, your child get 'caught up' as quickly as possible. Materials will be provided for your student and parents' assistance in reviewing those materials/assignments at home is appreciated.
